I have to say that, for being a complete “mac” guy I came to the iPhone very late in the game.
I have been a very dedicated Windows Mobile user for years and have been very happy. I used the first iPhone 2G and it had obvious shortcoming so I continued on with my WM6.5 and again kept on chugging.
I had the opportunity to get the iPhone 4 and have been really surprised for the last 2 months…I have made it my daily phone and have a very very short list of complaints and a long list of kudos.
The complaints:
1. Screen size is small. Despite the screen being brilliantly sharp its on the small size and that is a disappointment. I am hoping for at least a 4” screen on the iPhone 5.
2. Annoying Apple proprietary plug. This of course should be a microSD charger that is universal in almost every other smartphone.
3. On-screen keyboard is one of the worst of any of the smartphones on the market now. This again should improve with the screen size increase
4. iTunes/Apple has still not introduced a Zune like monthly pass…..I am not sure what they are waiting for…..that addition would be unreal!!
Kudos (where to start)….
1. Processing speed is second to none. Everything is very fast from multi-tasking to browsing the experience is excellent.
2. Screen is one of the best…..retina screen, you must see it to really believe it. Everything is very sharp and colors are amazing
3. Camera is very good….not great. Speed is excellent and you can get good shots and video almost on demand.
4. Multi-tasking is excellent. The speed of app switching is excellent and very intelligent the way it was integrated to the OS
5. App store is of course second to none. There is nothing that you cannot find
6. Web browsing is tremendous. There are a series of browsers that are better than Safari but even Safari is excellent in rendering and speed. I use “Perfect Browser” and it is great. Can’t wait for a bigger screen!!!
7. Multiple mail accounts. Exchange out of the box, all mail handled in separate inboxes or in the unified inbox is really strong.
8. iTunes integration is amazing music, video, podcasts and syncing is second to none…..they must get a monthly pass going (see #4 in complaints)
9. Ease of use. This is why I use Mac’s exclusively for both business and pleasure and have never looked back. They have made the phone experience the same. Easy to use and brilliant
10. Hardware is beautiful…..every detail is stunning…build quality is second to none.
11. WiFi hotspot....brilliant...finally
There are only a very few things that Apple has missed the mark on with this phone and I KNOW they will address in a few months with the iPhone 5.
