The Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL-II manual focus Lens is a sturdy, bright manual focus lens that features high-quality traditional construction with classic styling, while using modern optical lens technology. This lens is part of the SL II series, which feature a CPU (Central Processing Unit) built into the lens. Having the CPU integrated into the lens allows it to support 3D Matrix metering and matrix balanced fill flash on all SLR cameras, even DSLRs (in manual focus). In addition, this also means that the aperture is now controlled by the camera's command dial. This lens offers a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, with a minimum focusing distance of 1.5' (45cm), with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.8. Used on an APS-C sized DSLR camera, this lens is equivalent to an 85mm lens in 35mm terms, making it ideal for portraits, travel, or photojournalism. The Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL II is a classic standard lens made by Cosina. It is not a brand new design but based on the Voigtlander Topcor 58mm f/1.4 SL which was released in very limited quantities (1600 units) back in 2003. There were probably only a handful Topcors that ever left the home market (Japan) whereas the Nokton is now distributed around the globe. The Nokton has only been revised a little over its predecessor. The most obvious difference is the new finish - it's all black now.The build quality of the lens is superb - the outer barrel is made of metal and it's a pure joy to use the well-damped rubberized focus ring. The lens extends a bit when focusing towards closer distances. The front element does not rotate so using a polarizer remains easily possible. Typical for all Voigtlander SL lenses it offers manual focusing only.Max Format size 35mm FF Focal length 58 mm Maximum aperture F1.4 Minimum aperture F16.0.
